The dojo has reopened with a limited schedule. There will be adult classes only for now, and proof of COVID vaccination will be required.
See below for new class times and COVID requirements.
Welcome!
Oishi Judo is one of the oldest active judo clubs in New York City. It was founded in 1969 by Shiro Oishi, who continues to teach classes and give private lessons.
You are always welcome to watch a class at no charge. You can call in advance or simply drop by. Visitors and guests must wear a mask and will be asked to sign a waiver.
There will be no children's sessions at this time. The plan is for them to commence in the Fall, to be clarified at that time.

COVID requirements: The dojo will be asking for proof of vaccination before people will be permitted to practice. You can show your vaccination card, or show that you got Covid (medical test showing the date and that you have the antibody). In place of the card, there is a NY site that provides an Excelsior pass (NY State Excelsior Pass) showing that you have been vaccinated (based on the records from when the vaccine was administered).
Instructors
Shiro Oishi came to America as an art student in his early 20s and started Oishi Judo Club in 1969. Sensei Oishi holds an 8th degree black belt and was the 1980 AAU National Masters Judo Champion, 1969 AAU National Judo Champion, and 1976 AAU National Greco-Roman Wrestling Champion. Some of Sensei's sketches and paintings are on display in the dojo.
